How To Live Like a Millionaire (While Working a Tech Job)

From the desk of Kaelan Moss

Re: How to live like a millionaire while working from your laptop.

Did you know?

There are people in tech living better than entrepreneurs & business owners.

three people at a bonfire, looking at the sunset, with two palmtrees, a laptop in a mans lap, the blue ocean water

Here's the problem you face:

Most people think they need to quit their day job and build a business if they want to live a rich life.

If you quit your day job, you destroy your main source of income.

For most people - Your day job is your ONLY source of income.

What makes it even worse...

  • You think quitting your job will give you freedom - but you haven't learned how to free yourself (where you're at).

  • You think you're on the right path by quitting your job - when you actually have no path at all.

  • You don't know what your goals are - but want to build a business so you don't have to work in "The Matrix" anymore.

  • You've tried building your own business before, and you didn't know how to make it work. So deep down, you're scared to try it again.

Why put yourself through that pain?

Because some guru said you should do it?

To feel like you accomplished something?

The worst part about it is...

  • Most people who want to quit their job & build a business have good-paying jobs they can automate!

Most people in tech have a job they can put on autopilot 🛩️

a cow with money around him, he is a cash cow, standing on grass

But they're busy chasing other things and IGNORING THE CASH COW (💵🐄) they're sitting on.

Those people know that if they quit their jobs, they'll create a new job for themselves.

And work longer, harder hours.

And worst of all...

Despite all the attempts to build something for themselves...

Most people end up coming back to their 100% remote tech job when things don't work like they thought they would.

What you're looking for is the freedom to choose what you do every day.

You don't want to waste your time working all day.

You want the freedom and flexibility to:

  • Travel

  • See the world

  • Hang out with people that inspire you

  • Enjoy every day without worrying about money

Let me introduce you to a new way of looking at the world.

looking at the world in a new way, seeing it from a peaceful point of view

I call it:

The W2 Time-Freedom System.

a digital nomad, in europe, traveling the world, getting work done on a rooftop, calm cool and collected, everything at work under control

In the W2 Time-Freedom System, you'll discover:

  • How to finish your work day by noon.

  • How to enjoy life so you're not working all the time.

  • How to know exactly what to do when you wake up so you can have peaceful mornings.

  • How to have a routine that works for you so success becomes automatic.

  • How to have a consistent nighttime routine that guarantees a successful day the next day.

  • How to finish work with enough energy to enjoy the rest of your day.

  • How to avoid being overwhelmed at work.

  • How to get out of the "Work for work's sake" rat race

The result of this system is freedom.

The freedom to:

  • Travel

  • See the world

  • Hang out with inspiring people

  • And enjoy life without worrying about money.

I don't care how much money you make.

If you have FREEDOM to do what you want... When you want...

You're living like a millionaire.

Heck...

You're living better than some millionaires who have money but no time to enjoy it.

So...

Do you need to be a millionaire to live like one?

Absolutely not.

A rich life begins with a rich mind.

And a rich mind begins with a successful plan.

A successful plan has a successful system.

I'm here today to give you that system.

The millionaire "Lifestyle" is possible if you follow the W2 Time Freedom system.

But before I get ahead of myself.

Why should you trust the "W2 Time-Freedom System"?

  • First - I'm OBSESSED with systems.

  • Second - I try to systemize every part of my life (so I've got expereince with systems)

  • And third - I use this W2 Time-Freedom System in my own life.

What Happens When You Use The

"W2 Time-Freedom System"

a man working at his computer and overlooking the valley, with mountains in the background

If you use this system, you'll get more done in a day than you used to get done in a week.

When you stick to this system for 14-21 days, you can get 2 to 3 months of work done at a time.

Speaking of getting work done and being obsessed with systems...

Here are...

6 Areas of My Life That I've Systemized.

  1. I've created a system for my job (This is the W2 Time-Freedom System I'm about to show you).

  2. I've created a system for my money.

  3. I've created a system for my workout routine.

  4. I've created a system for my eating routine.

  5. I've created a system for my morning & evening routine.

  6. I've created a system for a whole side hustle (That one's for another day)

With the right system in place - You can live like a millionaire.

Especially if you have a 100% remote tech job.

Still don't believe me?

The W2 Time-Freedom System

(3 Step Process)

(Step 1)

Go on a Low Information Diet

a man looking at his phone first thing in the morning, scrolling on instagram and tiktok

You have to stop consuming so much content.

Most of your life is being wasted by:

  • Scrolling Social Media

  • Watching TV

  • Playing Video Games,

  • Watching Sports

  • Reading Useless Articles

  • Porn

  • Binge-watching YouTube Videos

  • Listening to Podcasts

  • Watching the News

Your mind needs a detox.

The goal here is:

  • Go on a 7-day Information Detox.

The only information to eat for seven days is:

  • Information related to specific work tasks. (To find the answer)

  • One Book (Choose wise - Don't read 2 books at a time - FOCUS)

  • Music that inspires you (or helps you focus while working)

a man relaxing peacefully by himself

The rest of your life needs to be spent:

  • Talking to people

  • Being outside

  • Or doing things you enjoy (Guitar, Biking, Adventure, etc.)

For example:

Let's say you're working on a project at work.

The only thing you should be focusing on is:

  • The task you need to do RIGHT NOW.

IF - You don't know what your task is.

THEN - Ask yourself these 2 questions:

  1. What is the NEXT STEP required to complete this task?

  2. What do I need to do RIGHT NOW to get this task done?

Write the answers down on paper.

Pen & Paper is your best friend here.

Don't lose your thoughts in the void of your smartphone or computer.

We want to eliminate distractions as much as possible here.

That's why Pen & Paper are supreme.

How do you know what information to digest?

If you can get the task done by memory - then do that.

If you don't need to Google it - then don't Google it.

If you're writing a report - focus on writing.

If you're coding JavaScript - focus on coding.

The only time to use Google is:

  • When you're stuck and need to find an answer.

How to know you're looking at VALUABLE information:

IF - The information is helping you complete your task.

THEN - The information is valuable.

Everything else is useless.

For 7 days - I want you to think of information like food.

Don't binge eat information.

Watch your information diet.

If it's not for fuel - then it's unnecessary.

(Step 2)

Do a Night Routine

a man praying before he goes to bed, hes getting ready to go to sleep for the night

Now that you're on a 7-Day Low-Information Diet...

The next step is...

Create a nighttime routine.

The nighttime is an overlooked step in most people's day.

But this is where you'll get the competitive advantage.

This is where winners are separated from the pack.

Here's my Night Time Routine:

  1. 8:00 PM - Read Bible Chapter with Fam

  2. 9:00 PM - Talk with Fam & Clean Up

  3. 9:45 PM - Plan the Next Day

  4. 10:00 - 10:15 PM - Journal in Monk Manual

  5. 10:15 - 11:00 PM - Read 10 Pages of a Book

When you're planning the next day, make sure to:

  • See what your calendar looks like tomorrow.

  • What time are your meetings?

  • What prep do you need to do for those meetings?

  • Set an alarm for those meetings - so you don't forget.

  • Put anything you need to get done tomorrow in your Monk Manual.

(Step 1 of Night Routine)

Identify your top 3 priorities for the next day.

a man writing his top 3 priorities in his journal, the monk manual, and the moon is showing through his window

Write your top 3 priorities:

  • On a sheet of paper (Easiest)

  • In the Monk Manual (What I Use)

  • In a journal you like

How do you know what your top 3 priorities are?

Ask yourself:

"If I get this done tomorrow, will I be able to sleep in peace tomorrow night?"

Usually, this is the thing you DON'T want to do.

If you DON'T want to do it - Then you NEED to do it.

Your spirit will tell you what needs to get done.

You need to listen, accept it, and take massive action.

Your nighttime routine determines your success the next day.

You HAVE to know what you're going to do when you wake up.

And you HAVE to write it down.

Intentionality matters a lot at this step.

This is where you practice being intentional about your life.

This won't work if you don't care about the outcome of your life.

I use the Monk Manual to write my priorities down for the next day.

It's what I use to systemize my intentionality.

(Step 2 of Night Routine)

Read 10 pages of a Book

a man is reading a book before bed, downloading knowledge into his mind before his subconscious takes over

After you write tomorrow's top 3 priorities - it's time to read.

Since you're not scrolling on your phone - you'll be consuming valuable information.

The smarter you are - the more opportunities you'll have.

And that's why reading is CRUCIAL.

You NEED to download knowledge into your head before you go to bed.

This one simple life hack will multiply your knowledge without any effort on your part.

A book is a collection of stories - bundled into one place.

The Reason To Read Is:

  • To flood the subconscious mind with positive stories related to your interests.

You'll notice the difference in the way you think after 7 days of doing this.

You'll be in a conversation and say words that you never said before.

You'll daydream and come up with brilliant ideas.

You'll understand how the world is working around you.

Consistent reading is a low-key (but HIGH-Key) superpower.

(Step 3)

Follow a Morning Routine

man working on morning routine, getting his day started, the sun is rising, he lives downtown, its 7 AM

You have 2 steps in your system running now.

The last step is to follow a morning routine.

This is where the work gets done!

Here's What You've Done So Far:

- Cut Distractions out of your life.

- Planned for the next day

- Consumed Positive and Useful Information

Now it's time for massive action.

IF - You complete step 3 of the W2 Time-Freedom System:

THEN - you will be 100% - 500% more productive than before.

Here's my Morning Routine:

- Wake up at 7:00 AM

- Clean Up & Drink Water

- Walk & Make TikTok Video

- Do Monk Manual Priorities & To Do list

- Done by 11:00 AM or 12:00 PM most days

(Step 1 of Morning Routine)

Make Time For YOURSELF 🫵🏽

I'm serious about this one.

This is THE most important part of your day.

This determines your success.

This is the time for you to:

  • Use the restroom

  • Brush your teeth

  • Make coffee

  • Check your priorities

  • Make a smoothie

  • etc...

This is a chance for you to be grateful for your life.

Enjoy a relaxing morning to yourself.

man relaxing in an egg chair, on the balcony, looking at downtown dallas

Anyone can do this.

You might need to wake up earlier to do this.

But whatever you do - Make sure to have the first hour of your day to yourself.

This puts you in a good mood to tackle the day.

(Step 2 of Morning Routine)

Eat The Frog

The 2nd thing to do when you wake up is:

Eat the frog.

I learned this from a guy in Las Vegas in 2021.

He said:

"If you want to be successful - the first thing you need to do when you wake up is the thing you DONT want to do." - Random Vegas Guy

He called it "Eating the Frog"

Those 3 words have stuck with me since he said it.

Do the hardest thing in the morning - and the rest of your day will be easy.

Now It's Time to Work on Priority #1

man sitting in home office, doing work at his desk, overlooking the ocean in malibu

My recommendation:

  • Make sure that your top 2 priorities are work-related.

That way, you can finish your money-making tasks first.

Your job is your current money maker.

Work on that first.

Another Recommendation:

  • IF - You're busy at work...

  • THEN - Make all 3 priorities work-related priorities.

  • IF - You're not busy at work...

  • THEN - You should have 1 or 2 priorities related to work.

  • And your 3rd priority should be a creative task.

Here's what my Priority list looked like on Saturday:

  • Priority #1 - Newsletter Writing (45 Min)

  • Priority #2 - MC Connect Checklist (45 Min)

  • Priority #3 - Write H2 Goals (30 Min)

After I have morning time to myself - I eat the frog & get to work!

I set a timer for 45 min if I need to get something done faster.

I set a timer for 30 min if I'm pacing myself on a project.

Your Task:

Determine how much time you need to spend on each priority for the day.

How to

Calculate Project Completion Times

a clock in the desert, Alladin feel

To see how long a project takes to finish:

Calculate the number of sessions & how long each session took.

Here's the equation:

Number of Sessions + Minutes Per Session = Total Time

For Example:

Here's a project I'm working on:

The "Marketing Cloud Connect Checklist"

For the MC Connect Checklist - I've done 4 sessions.

Each session has been 30 minutes.

4 Sessions * 30 Minutes = 2 Hours.

So I've worked on that step-by-step checklist for 2 hours now.

(Step 3 of Morning Routine)

Doing Admin Tasks

man sitting at desk, looking at computer, los angeles in the background, mountains in the view

The Last Step of The Morning Routine.

Doing Admin Tasks:

Admin tasks aren't fun for me.

It's my least favorite part of work.

Admin tasks are your "to-do list" items.

Set aside 45 minutes for admin work (after you finish your priorities).

Admin tasks include:

  • Ad-hoc tasks

  • Responding to emails

  • Scheduling meetings

  • Filling out paperwork

  • Prep for meetings

After you finish Admin work - you're done with work for the day.

Conclusion

As always.

If you want to customize this routine, you can.

This routine works for me.

You can time block for longer than 45 min if you want.

You can do multiple sessions of a task per day.

IF - You wake up early enough.

THEN - You should be able to knock everything out within 3-4 hours.

Fewer Distractions - Better Quality Work.

When you complete your priorities for the day - the only thing left should be meetings.

You should already be prepped for meetings (so you don't waste time).

Your meeting prep happens when you do Admin tasks in your morning routine.

This W2 Time Freedom System gives you the flexibility to work in the morning and enjoy life in the afternoon.

Think about it.

Even an entrepreneur has to work on their business.

They still have tasks to do.

Nothing is 100% hands-off on autopilot.

The goal is to get into the MINDSET of a business owner and systemize your life.

When you do that - you'll be living like a millionaire.

The best job to do this system with is a remote job.

man sitting at home desk, mountains in the background, sun is rising, cozy office space

You can set your own schedule.

  • If you like to wake up at 5:00 AM - you can finish your day by 9:00 AM.

  • If you wake up at 7:00 AM - you can finish your day by 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM.

This 3 step process requires continuous improvement on your part.

The improvement becomes automatic when you keep following this system.

With this system:

  • You're doing the work required to be successful.

  • So success becomes a byproduct.

You're also doing work first thing in the morning (with a plan & purpose):

  • So you're creating time freedom for yourself.

You can't ask for anything more than that.

A Concept To Think About

You don't have to build a business to

run a business.

man sitting in chair on patio, sunrise, palm trees, birds in the sky, downtown buildings, los angeles

You just have to run YOUR one-person business.

Think of yourself as a freelancer who gets a guaranteed paycheck every 2 weeks.

If you look at it like that - you'll see 2 things.

You have the power to choose when you want to work.

And you have the power to treat yourself like the business owner you are.

Working in tech has a lot of perks.

But this is what I love the most about tech jobs:

You get to be your own boss.

If you're taking care of your work priorities - you can live like a millionaire.

Once you're done with your tasks for the day - You're DONE.

The tech world revolves around results.

Don't get caught up in doing work for work's sake.

Work for work's sake only leads to boredom.

If you're doing work just to stay "busy" - please stop.

Live your life!

Do the work that moves the needle.

Do productive work...

If you're inspired by your work - then by all means, keep doing it!

Don't stop.

But if you're working just to say you're working - what's the point?

If you conquer the mission - why are you still fighting?

Prioritize your day and attack with full force.

When you're done - You're done.

This is how I live like a millionaire while working a W2 job.

Now the question becomes...

What will you do with your free time?

How will you enjoy the extra time for yourself?

Will you spend more time with loved ones?

Will you start a side hustle?

It's your choice when you follow this system.

BONUS:

Productivity Gurus to Learn From:

people sitting by bonfire, on the beach, palm tree, sun is setting

These people have mastered systems in their lives.

Everything I gave you in this letter is from something I learned from one of these guys along my journey.

You could say they're my Tribe of Mentors.

Here are the 7 people that have helped me the most:
