Run to your FEAR

Fear is there to haunt you.

But fear is also your way out of the maze.

On the other side of fear is God's Glory.

How many times has fear blinded you?

Making you afraid to move.

Scared to take another step.

Terrified to take the leap.

The excellent version of you is on the other side of fear.

You have to be willing to listen to God and take the leap.

"Let Go and Let God" - Unknown

Here's the Problem

Creating my own path in life (alone).

I've tried to figure out what to do for so long, and it's burning me out.

I can't rely on my own understanding to build a fantastic life.

I've been planning my life all by myself.

My mind tells me that I have the best ideas.

And I've had some success.

But that doesn't mean I'm doing the right thing.

Maybe I'm operating with a gift that God gave me.

But with a distorted view of life.

This distorted view has caused me to feel emotions like:

  • Stress

  • Anger

  • Sadness

  • Bitterness

  • Curiosity

  • Fear

  • Surprise

  • Love

  • Happiness

  • Anticipation

  • Contentment

  • Gratitude

  • Kindness

As you can see, that's a lot of emotions.

And a lot of unnecessary stress.

Relying on my own understanding isn't working for me.

It's causing me stress and burnout.

Why Should I Let Go and

Let God Tell Me What To Do?

To show people the Kingdom of God

To have peace

To enjoy life

To operate with complete freedom

To live with giant joy

To serve with love in all things

To put all my trust into God's hands

To let go of my stress

To stop feeling burnt out

To stop feeling anxious all the time

To think clearly

To remove distractions from my life

People come up with many reasons to ignore God's voice.

We constantly talk ourselves out of listening to Him.

We say things like:

  • I can figure life out on my own.

  • I'll just read a few more books.

  • I'll watch more podcasts.

  • I'll get a mentor.

  • I'll just do a workout and clear my mind.

  • If I work hard enough, I'll figure it out.

  • I'll go on walks, and nature will tell me what to do.

  • God doesn't exist.

  • God can't help me with my problems.

  • God doesn't care about my troubles.

  • I'm getting older - I can fix my own issues.

  • I need to surround myself with positive, motivated people.

But these stories only cover the symptoms of the real pain.

We're always:

  • Solving the next problem.

or

  • Accomplishing the next goal.

But that never fulfills us.

I'll Give You a Perfect Example.

Recently, I've been planning my life a lot more.

I've been asking myself questions like:

  • What do I want in life?

  • Where do I want to live?

  • What do I want to do for work?

  • Who do I want to work with?

  • What type of friends do I want to have?

  • Etc.

But Here's What I've Realized Lately:

Every time I achieve something, I go back to step one.

I'm always chasing the carrot.

Never truly satisfied.

A few nights ago, I read 1st Corinthians, Chapter 12.

After reading that chapter, I asked myself three questions.

1. Why am I not happy in the present moment?
2. Why do I keep chasing the carrot?
3. Why is my focus on the things of this world?

Those 3 questions made me ask even more questions.

Questions like:

Is it worth trying to figure things out by myself?

Can I move forward without focusing on the most important thing?

These questions make me wonder what I'm doing with my life.

But the biggest question that I keep asking is:

What is the #1 commandment?

And here it is (from Luke chapter 10, verse 27).

"You shall love the Lord your God with:
- All your Heart,
- All your Soul,
- All your Strength,
- And with all your Mind,

And love your neighbor as you love yourself."

- Jesus Christ

When I think about the greatest commandment, I feel a conviction.

For so long, I've heard that you have to face your fears head-on if you want anything in life.

To Face My Fears In The Past...

I've Forced Myself To:

  • Do public speaking.

  • Jump out of an airplane.

  • Move to new cities.

  • Write these articles and hit publish every week.

  • Make career choices that other people would consider crazy.

  • Chase my dreams.

But Right Now...

There's a Different Fear I'm Facing.

And that fear is:

Letting go of the things of this world and listening to what God wants me to do.

I don't need to tell you how many distractions there are in the world.

Just open your phone, and you'll see countless notifications trying to steal your attention.

man distracted by notifications on his phone

It's even worse when you open up social media.

You have a guru telling you to invest in crypto one day.

Then, the next day, someone tells you to become a Real Estate expert.

It's a never-ending cycle of distractions.

To expand on that idea of distractions, here's a quick story.

I was talking to my mom recently.

She was watching a movie.

I was helping her with some things.

I walked past the TV, and as soon as I did, I heard curse words.

She looked at me and said:

"That was the first time they've cursed in the entire movie. As soon as you walked by, they started saying curse words."

And I realized something profound at that moment.

I said:

"That's the thing about the world; you never know what you're going to get."

One minute, things could be going well; the next minute, things are in all-out chaos.

That realization is so important that I want to expand on it.

Here's the thing about the world:

Even when things look like they're going good, you never know what you'll get.

There are SO many things to do.

But everything in the world is the same.

They're all just THINGS.

If I do Salesforce, it's just another way to make money.
If I build a business, it's just an avenue to wealth.
If I have a house on the beach, it's just another plot of land in the dirt.

Making THINGS my end goal is meaningless.

None of it matters in the grand scheme of eternity.

I believe there is a real God and a real eternal plan for you and me.

For example, let's say I'm doing Salesforce.

Is it worth doing Salesforce simply for the money?

Or is it another THING that I'm doing?

Am I living in my purpose while doing a Salesforce career?

Or am I simply chasing another carrot for the money?

It's essential to avoid distractions.

Don't be sucked into the vicious cycle of what the world is telling you to do.

man being sucked into a vicious cycle of what the world is distracting him with

You and I need a different framework to live by.

A different code of ethics - disconnected from the world.

A specific set of rules to play by.

We need to focus on the Kingdom of God.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (Matthew Chapter 6, Verse 33)

So where does all that leave me?

Here are my thoughts as I look out of this coffee shop window and write.

writing on laptop at a coffee shop

In the back of my mind, the only thing I can think of is this:

Face your ultimate fear.

The fear of giving God all the control.

Letting God take the steering wheel in my life.

And focusing on what he wants me to focus on.

Cutting out the shiny goals that are just a distraction.

Without consulting God, achieving goals is just for personal glory.

One thing I want to Clarify

I am not saying:

If you're a Christian, you need to be poor.

Or, to be a Christian, you have to be boring and do nothing.

No, not at all!

Here's what I'm saying:

You'll be blessed when you do these five things:

  • Seek God

  • Listen to God

  • Love your neighbor as you love yourself

  • Follow your purpose

  • Take every action with love

The Life I Want To Live

As I've written this letter, here's what I've realized.

If I do something for my own personal gain, then it doesn't give me true, lasting fulfillment.

If my goal becomes all I can think about (while neglecting God), then I've lost my way.

Don't get me wrong.

  • It's okay to be great at your job.

  • It's great to build a billion-dollar business.

  • It's fantastic to have a million followers on social media.

But you won't be fulfilled if the goal is to glorify yourself.

Dreams without love and service are empty.

If you don't do everything for God's Glory, it'll fade when you're gone.

Life will open up when you get rid of your pride and ego.

Living with a servant attitude is what creates long term success.

So, here's to conquering fear.

The fear of giving God all the control.

Run to your FEAR and see how life opens up for you.

How To Run Toward To Fear:

(My 3-Step Process)

Use this process if you want to Follow God and Find Your Purpose

Step 1 - Seek God First

When I wake up - I'll read a chapter of the Bible.

Step 2 - Meditate on God's word

Throughout the day - Read the Word again & again

Step 3 - Learn Something New

I will watch a video on MessengerX or do a study plan on the Bible app.

Step 4 - Pray Daily

Spend intentional time alone to talk to God (unfiltered).

Step 5 - Get To Work

Just because you're following God, doesn't mean you stop working.

God's voice inspires hard work with the right mindset.

He makes you want to give it everything you've got.

TIP: Use a Study Bible to learn as much as you can. It'll change the game and make the Bible much easier to read.

Conclusion

Fear is there to haunt you.

But fear is also your way out of the maze.

On the other side of fear is God's Glory.

How many times has fear blinded you?

Making you afraid to move.

Scared to take another step.

Terrified to take the leap.

The excellent version of you is on the other side of fear.

You just have to be willing to listen to God and take the leap.
